Support the Trust
Join us in preserving the rich heritage of Monmouthshire by becoming a valued part of The Village Alive Trust. Our mission is to protect and revitalise the historic buildings and community spaces that tell the story of our past, ensuring they remain a source of pride and inspiration for generations to come.
By volunteering or supporting our work, you’ll contribute to meaningful conservation efforts that make a real difference to the local area. Whether you’re drawn to the hands-on challenges of restoration, the creativity of planning events, or the rewarding experience of engaging with the community, there’s a role for everyone.
Together, we can celebrate and protect Monmouthshire’s unique history while creating opportunities to enrich the present and shape the future. Find out how you can join this inspiring cause and help us keep our shared heritage alive!
Membership
We are always looking for new members and do hope you will consider joining.
The Village Alive Trust presents a wonderful opportunity for people to come together to achieve lasting improvements that will benefit the Welsh countryside, its agricultural heritage and environment. You will be able to meet, and gain experience from current members who share like ideals. Many have been involved with successful restoration projects or have helped develop and promote countryside amenities including walks and access to local history and heritage. A brief tour of the website will give you a good idea of the scope of our activities.
The Trust has managed a number of conservation projects where everyone benefits. If you are interested in setting up your own conservation initiatives, I’m sure that you will find what we have done here is a useful and practical model.
The Trust also has an ongoing project to record memories and anecdotes of rural life in the mid-20th century in which we invite members to become involved. We make digital recordings of people’s experiences and save them in an archive which we hope will be available nationally.
The benefits of membership include:
meeting new people who share your interest in saving rural vernacular architecture
participating in removing selected buildings from the register of buildings at risk in Monmouthshire
gaining knowledge of best practice in conserving heritage buildings
working with farmers and others to provide public access to conserved buildings
organising and participating in community social events which showcase rural heritage
engaging with the public who visit buildings the Trust has conserved
working with grant bodies and the local authority for the benefit of rural communities
joining us to celebrate the Trust’s achievements.
You are very welcome to attend Trust meetings to see if you would like to join. Meetings are held about five times a year, in an evening, at members’ homes in the Cross Ash area of Monmouthshire. In addition, members run an annual event and five open days each summer in north Monmouthshire and respond to requests for information, usually via email, throughout the year.
Membership costs £10 a year per household (cheques should be made payable to: Village Alive Trust).
You can apply for membership by filling in the contact form or by completing an application form here….. and sending either by E-mail, or by post to the Secretary, at the following address, with details of your name, address, e-mail address and contact numbers:
